Hospitals Can Use NHCS Data to Meet Meaningful Use

Hospitals and eligible professionals (EPs) now can register to submit National Health Care Survey (NHCS) data in 2017.

Submission of NHCS data will satisfy the specialized registry reporting objective to show meaningful use of electronic health records (EHRs) in the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs.

The NHCS collects data on all inpatient discharges and ambulatory encounters in emergency and outpatient departments. The survey collects patient-level identifiers, which allow a patient to be tracked between different hospital settings and other databases to provide a more complete picture of patient care.

Hospitals and EPs can register for NHCS data submission by calling 301.458.4321 or emailing NCHSMUInfo@cdc.gov.
