The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated the Hospital Compare website with new data on health care–associated infections (HAIs) and patient experience, as measured through the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) data and star ratings.
The refresh also includes:
- American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program data;
- Prospective Payment System–Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting (PCHQR) data; and
- timely and effective care measure data.
Notably, central line–associated blood stream infection (CLABSI) data are not shown on Hospital Compare due to a data error found by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The overall hospital rating is now on a biannual schedule and will be updated with the July and December Hospital Compare releases. Direct questions about the Hospital Compare overall rating to the Hospital Compare Overall Rating Implementation Team at cmsstarratings@lantanagroup.com.
