Last week, at a Capitol Hill event organized by House Democrats to examine the American Health Care Act (AHCA), an America’s Essential Hospitals member leader testified about the devastating effects the legislation would have on coverage for vulnerable people.
Samuel Ross, MD, MS, CEO of Bon Secours Baltimore Health System, told House Democratic leaders he is especially concerned about the future for people who gained coverage for the first time under the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion. By cutting nearly $900 billion from Medicaid over 10 years and eliminating the enhanced federal match for expansion, states would be unable to maintain coverage for those people and many others, he said.
Ross also serves as executive vice president of Bon Secours Health System Inc., which owns the Baltimore Health System and facilities in Kentucky, New York, South Carolina, Virginia, and Florida. Ross also sits on the board of America’s Essential Hospitals.
America’s Essential Hospitals has issued statements, updates, letters and a section-by-section overview of the AHCA.
