As part of a recent website redesign and release of new resources, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services published a fact sheet on the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) and Quality Payment Program (QPP).
The fact sheet gives a general overview of the MSSP and QPP and explains how the programs work together. It also answers specific questions for providers who participate in either program, including:
- how the merit-based incentive payment system (MIPS) determines participation in a shared savings program accountable care organization (ACO);
- how certain tracks of the MSSP meet advanced alternative payment model criteria under the QPP;
- how quality data is reported and used to assess MIPS clinicians participating in shared savings program ACOs; and
- what happens if an ACO does not successfully report their quality measures.
Visit the association’s QPP resource page for new and updated information on the program and its provisions.
