CMS Releases Resource To Help Patients Use Health Coverage

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a no-cost resource to help patients access care after signing up for coverage on the health insurance marketplaces. More than 12.7 million people signed up for coverage during the 2016 open enrollment period.

The resource guide, called From Coverage to Care, will help patients understand their benefits and connect them with a primary care provider and preventive services. The guide emphasizes five steps for individuals to make the most of their coverage:

  • Confirm your coverage.
  • Know where to go for answers.
  • Find a provider.
  • Make an appointment.
  • Fill your prescriptions.

As part of this guide, CMS also released A Roadmap to Better Care and a Healthier You, which provides step-by-step instructions on how to use health coverage.
