Weigh In on Future of State Innovation Models Initiative

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking input from all stakeholders on the evolution of the State Innovation Models (SIM) Initiative.

The SIM Initiative was launched in 2013 to determine whether states could accelerate health care transformation efforts in their state, with an overall goal to transform more than 80 percent of provider payments into innovative payments and care delivery models.

CMS is requesting feedback on the evolution of the SIM Initiative, particularly how the agency might help states implement innovative payment and care delivery models consistent with the proposed Quality Payment Program (QPP) under the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). CMS is asking for comments on several concepts:

  • partnering with states to implement delivery and payment models across multiple payers;
  • implementing financial accountability for health outcomes of an entire state population;
  • assessing the effect of care interventions across states; and
  • facilitating alignment of state and federal payment and care delivery reform efforts.

Comments must be submitted to SIM.RFI@cms.hhs.gov by Oct. 28.
