The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has pushed back by seven weeks the deadline for qualified health plans (QHPs) to submit applications to participate in the Affordable Care Act health insurance marketplaces in 2018.
The decision by CMS’ Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight (CCIIO) came in a Feb. 17 addendum to the 2018 Letter to Issuers in the Federally-Facilitated Marketplaces, which CCIIO issued Dec. 16, 2016.
The addendum changes the QHP application submission window from April 5 – May 3 to May 10 – June 21. CCIIO said all other parts of the 2018 Letter to Issuers remain unchanged by the addendum.
The agency noted that CMS will release a separate draft bulletin, entitled “Timing of Submission and Posting of Rate Filing Justifications for the 2017 Filing Year for Single Risk Pool Coverage,” to propose revisions to the rate review submission and posting deadlines.
