The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) April 28 published updated overall hospital quality star ratings on its Care Compare website. The ratings were last updated in January 2020.
America’s Essential Hospitals has expressed continued concern about the fairness and reliability of the ratings program. In response to stakeholder engagement, CMS made changes to the methodology in the calendar year 2021 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System final rule. The April 2021 update uses the revised methodology, including peer grouping.
