Open enrollment began this week for the federal HealthCare.gov and state-based insurance marketplaces under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
The open enrollment period runs from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 2017. Consumers must enroll by Dec. 15 for coverage that begins Jan. 1, 2017.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said 85 percent of consumers eligible to purchase coverage through the marketplaces could qualify for tax credits. In addition, more than 70 percent of consumers will be able to find coverage for 2017 for less than $75 per month with financial assistance, HHS said.
Meanwhile, HHS is collaborating with 17 companies to provide freelance workers and entrepreneurs with information about their health insurance options through the marketplace.
