On the Hill: GOP Elects New Leadership, House Hearings on Research and Innovation, Medicare

Last week, House Republicans elected Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to finish Rep. Eric Cantor’s (R-VA) term as House majority leader after Cantor lost his primary last week. McCarthy had been serving as the House majority whip but vacated the spot to run for majority leader. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was elected to fill the whip position.

On Tuesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold its second hearing on 21st Century Cures as part of an initiative by the committee to ensure federal policies are not hindering biomedical and therapeutic research and innovation.

On Wednesday, the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversights and Investigations will hold a hearing titled Medicare Program Integrity: Screening Out Errors, Fraud and Abuse. Witnesses include representatives from the Center for Program Integrity at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Office of the Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and The U.S. Government Accountability Office.
