On the Hill: Drug Abuse Hearing, FMAP Hearing, Snow Delay

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary heard testimony today from three panels during a hearing on heroin and prescription medication abuse.

The first panel featured Sens. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Rob Portman (R-OH); and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin. The second panel comprised staff from federal agencies and advocates, and the third panel features local mental health providers. The committee also plans to hold a hearing on general mental health issues.

Winter Storm Jonas, which closed the federal government in the Washington, DC, area for nearly three days this week, forced the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health to postpone a scheduled hearing on Examining Medicaid and CHIP’s Federal Medical Assistance Percentage (FMAP). The committee has not determined a new date for the hearing. The House canceled its legislative business for the week, while the Senate pushed back its session calendar by one day.
