In the House, 21st Century Cures legislation continues to move. It may go to the House floor for a vote next week. The House Energy and Commerce Committee passed this legislation in a 51-0 vote last month. The House Committee on Ways and Means has yet to review the legislation, but could offer proposed changes as the bill moves to the floor. Otherwise, House and Senate floor activities this week focus on defense authorization and other spending measures.
In other committee business,the House Committee on Ways and Means will hold a hearing Wednesday on implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’) fiscal year 2016 budget request. HHS Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell will testify. The House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health will hold a hearing to examine the 9/11 Health and Compensation Reauthorization Act. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will hold a full committee hearing on health information exchange and improving care quality and value for patients.
