The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated Hospital Compare with the most recent Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) data – for the reporting period of April 2012 through March 2013. CMS did not update HCAHPS data in December due to issues with the QualityNet Exchange data warehouse. The HCAHPS is a national survey on patients’ perspectives of hospital care. HCAHPS performance is among the measures used to determine value-based incentive payments to hospitals through the Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program. The VBP Program, established by the Affordable Care Act, links Medicare inpatient payments to performance on select quality measures. It allows hospitals to earn incentive payments for demonstrating quality and safety improvements.
