The deadline is approaching for clinicians and groups to submit data for the 2017 performance period of the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS).
The MIPS is one of two tracks under the Quality Payment Program (QPP). Clinicians can use the MIPS Participation Status Tool to determine whether they must report for MIPS. Group practices can report data as a group or individually; the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will use the data resulting in a higher final score to calculate payment adjustments for MIPS-eligible clinicians.
Group reporting through the CMS web interface must be complete by March 16 at 8 pm ET. All other MIPS data, including data reporting via the QPP website, is due March 31. Eligible clinicians can submit data for the Quality, Improvement Activities, and Advancing Care Information performance categories.
Data can be updated and submitted to CMS in real-time up to the March 31 deadline. CMS will provide performance feedback and begin applying payment adjustments in January 2019.
CMS released a fact sheet with step-by-step instructions for submitting MIPS data. America’s Essential Hospitals also has established a resource page dedicated to the QPP. Visit this page regularly for new and updated information.
