Members of Congress voiced bipartisan support of the 340B program on its 20th anniversary. In a July 12  letter to Chairman Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Ranking Member Lamar Alexander (R-TN) of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee, Sens. John Thune (R-SD) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) stated the “20 year old law helps to reduce pharmaceutical costs of hundreds of hospitals.” They also urged other Senators to sign on to the letter, stating that “the 340B Drug Discount Program remains essential for safety-net providers to fulfill their role in care for our nation’s vulnerable populations.” Similarly, in a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), Reps. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) and Kathy Castor (D-FL) urged them to “resist any legislative efforts to change the law’s mission.”
