Meaningful Use Attestation Deadline Extended

Eligible hospitals and professionals now have until March 11 to attest to the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. The original deadline was Feb. 29.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extended the deadline, giving participants additional attestation time to demonstrate meaningful use of EHR technology in 2015. Eligible hospitals may select a reporting period for any continuous 90 days from Oct. 1, 2014, through Dec. 31, 2015.

Failure to meet meaningful use requirements or obtain a hardship exception in the 2015 reporting year will result in a payment adjustment in 2017. The deadline for hospitals to apply for a hardship exception is April 1.
