The Kaiser Family Foundation released an issue brief Nov. 5 stating that about 17 million people will be eligible for premium tax credits in 2014. Under the Affordable Care Act, premium tax credits are available to help people with low and moderate incomes afford the cost of health insurance sold through the new health insurance marketplaces (exchanges). The issue brief estimates that Texas, California, and Florida each have more than one million residents who are eligible for premium tax credits. It also estimates that seven states have more than 500,000 residents who are eligible for premium tax credits.
