ICD-10 Transition Set for October 2015

As part of the End-Stage Renal Disease Prospective Payment System proposed rule, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reiterated its intention to release an interim final rule announcing the Oct. 1, 2015 transition to International Classification of Diseases, 10th Edition (ICD-10) code sets. ICD-10 codes will allow data related to diagnoses to be compared internationally. The rule will require use of ICD-9-CM code sets through Sept. 30, 2015. Pursuant to the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, Oct. 1 is the earliest possible date that HHS can implement the transition to ICD-10 code sets.
