Hospitals New to Meaningful Use Can Attest by Aug. 14

First-time hospital participants in the fiscal year (FY) 2015 Medicare Electronic Health Record Incentive program can now attest to meaningful use through Aug.14, instead of waiting until Jan. 1, 2016, as previously required by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Those choosing this option must attest to stage 1 requirements finalized in 2014 instead of the newly proposed requirements released earlier this year. Hospitals may attest to meaningful use for a 90-day reporting period and will be eligible for a full-year reporting period in January 2017. Hospitals previously participating in the program must report on a full year and can submit attestations in early 2016.
