CMS To Accept Revised Uncompensated Care Worksheets

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will allow hospitals to submit revisions to Worksheet S-10 of their Medicare cost report for fiscal year (FY) 2015 by Sept. 30. Hospitals that have not yet submitted a Worksheet S-10 for FY 2015 can do so by this deadline.

The FY 2018 Inpatient Prospective Payment System (IPPS) proposed rule included plans by CMS to begin using data from the Worksheet S-10 to calculate Medicare disproportionate share hospital (DSH) uncompensated care payments. FY 2015 Worksheet S-10 data presumably would be used for calculating DSH payments in FY 2019. Before the FY 2015 data is used for FY 2019 DSH payments, hospitals can update their Worksheet S-10 to ensure it accurately reflects their uncompensated care costs.

A hospital’s Medicare administrative contractor must receive the revised Worksheet S-10 from the hospital no later than Sept. 30 for it to be considered. This applies only to the Worksheet S-10 and not to any other worksheets included in the cost report.
