The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) this week refreshed data on the Hospital Compare website.
The refresh includes data on new measures, such as excess days in acute care after hospitalization (EDAC) and 90-day hip/knee payment measures. Other updated measures include:
- data on readmissions, complications, and deaths;
- data from patient experience surveys, including the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Survey and HCAHPS star ratings; and
- some health care–associated infections, excluding central line–associated bloodstream infections and catheter-associated urinary tract infections, due to a data file error.
Notably, overall hospital star ratings have not been publicly refreshed due to previously reported data issues. Updated overall star ratings data will be published in October and again as part of the biannual refresh in December. Hospitals can preview the ratings through Aug. 13 by signing in to the QualityNet Secure Portal and are encouraged to save a copy of the report for future reference.
