The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released Hospital Compare preview reports for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Quality Reporting Program.
CMS encourages hospitals to download and save a copy of their report from the QualityNet Secure Portal during the preview period, which runs through June 2. These reports will not be available after the preview period.
Two measures are included for the first time in this preview report:
- Severe Sepsis and Septic Shock; and
- Excess Days in Acute Care after Hospitalization for Pneumonia.
Notably, pain management no longer is included in the calculation of the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) Summary Star Rating or Hospital Compare Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating, after the related survey questions were removed from the HCAHPS survey under the FY 2018 Inpatient Prospective Payment System final rule.
CMS anticipates that Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating hospital-specific reports will be available for the July 2018 release about two weeks after the preview period began, on May 4.
Hospitals can send questions about overall star ratings to the Hospital Compare Overall Rating Team at email@example.com.
