Hospital Compare February Preview Reports Now Available

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released February 2019 Hospital Compare preview reports for hospitals participating in the Inpatient Psychiatric Facility Quality Reporting, Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting, Hospital Outpatient Quality Reporting, and Prospective Payment System–Exempt Cancer Hospital Quality Reporting programs.

Displayed on a new, streamlined interface, these reports are an effort by the agency to modernize the hospital quality reporting system to enhance the user experience.

CMS encourages hospitals to download and save a copy of their report from the QualityNet Secure Portal during the preview period, which runs through Dec. 30. These reports will not be available after the preview period. Data will be published on the Hospital Compare website in February.

Additionally, CMS on Dec. 3 began releasing the February 2019 Hospital Compare Overall Hospital Star Rating Hospital-Specific Reports (HSRs). These reports include updates to the star ratings methodology, which the agency revised in response to stakeholder concerns following the July 2018 preview period. Hospitals have 30 days to review their HSRs before public reporting.

Hospitals can send questions about overall star ratings to the Hospital Compare Overall Hospital Rating Team at cmsstarratings@lantanagroup.com.

Contact Senior Director of Policy Erin O’Malley at eomalley@essentialhospitals.org or 202.585.0127 with additional questions.
