The Health IT Policy Committee (HITPC) Meaningful Use Workgroup seeks comments from providers on meaningful use experiences. The HITPC makes policy recommendations to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) on the development and adoption of a nationwide health information technology (HIT) infrastructure, including standards for the exchange of patient medical information.
Recently, the workgroup submitted to ONC recommendations for stage 3 of the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. The workgroup continues to optimize stage 3 requirements and seeks input and future-focused solutions from users regarding the experience of developing, adopting, and meaningfully using EHRs. The workgroup has posed the following questions to frame comments:
- What has been your experience with achieving stage 1 and what steps or actions are you considering as you approach stage 2? What success factors have you identified?
- What should be taken into account as we look toward stage 3 objectives and criteria?
- Are there specific areas that should be focused on to provide the most impact in achieving the stage 3 requirements?
- What overall benefits have you achieved as a result of implementing and meaningfully using your EHR?
America’s Essential Hospitals urges members to submit their experiences to the workgroup. View comments and submit your own to this recent blog post. Please contact Xiaoyi Huang, director of policy, at xhuang@essentialhospitals.org or 202.585.0127 with any questions.
