The House last week formally transmitted to the Senate two articles of impeachment against President Trump, for obstruction of Congress and abuse of power.
The Senate trial begins Jan. 21, with U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts Jr. presiding.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) appointed seven impeachment managers to lead the prosecution:
- House Intelligence Committee Chair Adam Schiff (D-CA);
- House Judiciary Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY);
- Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA);
- Rep. Val Demings (D-FL);
- Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO);
- Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY); and
- Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX).
The Senate likely will vote Tuesday on rules and procedures that govern the impeachment trial.
