HHS Awards $250M to Fight COVID-19 Among Marginalized Communities

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced $250 million in grant awards to 73 local governments as part of a new initiative to identify and implement best practices for improving health literacy to enhance COVID-19 vaccination among underserved populations.

The two-year initiative was developed based on the administration’s strategy for COVID-19 response and pandemic preparedness. Several awardees represent local public health departments across the United States that work closely with essential hospitals.

Awardees will use funds to create and develop projects with local community-based organizations to better spread health literacy information, particularly related to COVID-19 and other public health issues, for minority populations and other marginalized groups.
