A new portal now is available for providers to attest receipt of their share of the initial distribution from the COVID-19 provider relief fund.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on April 10 disbursed $30 billion to providers based on 2019 Medicare fee-for-service reimbursements. The relief fund was authorized by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act (H.R. 748) and provides a total $100 billion. The fund is intended to support providers incurring health care–related expenses and lost revenue from response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to attesting to receiving the funds, providers must agree to terms and conditions, including to not balance bill patients receiving COVID-19 testing or treatment. Providers have 30 days from receipt of the payment to complete attestation. If a provider does not agree to the terms and conditions, they must contact HHS and return the full payment within 30 days.
We encourage all members to visit the America’s Essential Hospitals coronavirus resource page for more information about the outbreak. The association also has established a members-only COVID-19 funding tracker, capturing opportunities for essential hospitals to access needed resources.
