This week’s application deadline (Aug. 15) for round two of the federal health care innovation awards also will mark the close of the Model Impact Estimator, an online tool to estimate costs and savings. The awards are part of a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services initiative to test new payment and service delivery models that improve care for Medicare, Medicaid, and Children’s Health Insurance Program beneficiaries. The Model Impact Estimator uses 2011 Medicare cost data aggregated by demographic, spending, utilization, and quality indicators at the hospital referral region level to help applicants estimate the impact of their proposed model. More information about the Model Impact Estimator can be found online.
