The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services updated the status of temporary COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) waivers and flexible options, following the Biden administration’s announcement that the PHE will end May 11.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 PHE, established in January 2020, CMS granted health care providers flexibility through emergency waiver authorities and various regulatory authorities so they could respond rapidly to people affected by COVID-19. The updated fact sheets share when specific waivers will end and whether they will continue after the PHE’s end.
Fact sheets of interest to essential hospitals include, but are not limited to:
- Hospitals and CAHs (including Swing Beds, DPUs), ASCs and CMHCs.
- Teaching Hospitals, Teaching Physicians and Medical Residents.
- Physicians and Other Clinicians.
- Medicare Shared Savings Program.
