CMS to Hospitals: Review Your Overall Star Rating Report

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is reminding hospitals to access and review hospital-specific reports from the dry run of its proposed overall quality star rating system and provide feedback on the system and methodology via email by Aug. 17. If implemented, the overall star ratings will be posted to Hospital Compare beginning next year.

The hospital-specific reports will help hospitals become familiar with CMS’ proposed methodology for the system. Hospitals can also review results and data based on that methodology. To access hospital-specific dry run reports, hospitals should log into the QualityNet Secure Portal and access the Secure File Transfer section of the website. Reports should be in hospitals’ inbox.

CMS will also host an Aug. 13 provider call to discuss the proposed methodology for the overall star rating, corresponding hospital-specific reports, and lessons learned from the dry run. Hospitals and other interested stakeholders will have the opportunity to ask questions on the call.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Maryellen Guinan, Esq., policy analyst, at mguinan@essentialhospitals.org or 202.495.3354.
