The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is seeking nominations from interested stakeholders to join the Alternative Payment Model (APM) Definitions and Progress Tracking Work Group. This first work group of 10 to 12 people will be convened by the Health Care Payment Learning Action Network. The work group will define a set of APM terms to use as the foundation for discussion and a recommended methodology to track APM implementation. Beginning in July, Members will attend biweekly conference calls and one in-person meeting in Washington, DC, over four months.
Nominations are due June 19. CMS seeks individuals with one or more of the following attributes:
- deep knowledge of payment reform
- experience designing APMs
- experience designing methods of measurement for APMs
- ability to communicate complex health care concepts to the public
- experience working with different perspectives on complex health system issues
The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network was first convened earlier this year to discuss how to best transition from traditional Medicare fee-for-service payment models to alternative models focused on reimbursing providers based on quality and value. This network is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’) strategy to meet its goal of tying 30 percent of Medicare payments to quality- and value-based APMs by 2016 and 50 percent by 2018.
