CMS Seeks Feedback on Specialty Practitioner Payment Models

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Innovation Center released a request for information (RFI) Feb. 11, that seeks provider input on how to develop new payment and service delivery models for specialty practitioner services in the outpatient setting. Specifically, CMS would like feedback on two potential models:

  • a procedural, episode-based payment model, which would define episodes according to outpatient procedures such as colonoscopy or cardiac catheterization
  • a complex, chronic disease management, episode-based payment model, which would apply when a specialist plays an ongoing role in a patient’s care

Comments must be submitted online by March 13.
