CMS Says More Than 1.46 Million Were Eligible for Medicaid, CHIP in October

In a Dec. 3 report, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) reported that more than 1.46 million people were determined eligible for Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) in October. The report is the first in a series of monthly reports from the agency, using state Medicaid and CHIP data. States expanding their Medicaid programs saw a 15.5 percent increase in applications for Medicaid and CHIP coverage in October compared with the previous three months. States not expanding their Medicaid programs saw a 4.1 percent increase in applications.
