The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released a rule finalizing physician payment rates and policies for calendar year 2014, reducing Medicare rates by 20.1 percent. This cut under the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula is less than the 24.4 percent cut proposed in July. As previously reported in Newsline, Congress is working to pass legislation that would replace the current formula for determining Medicare physician payments, which is based in part on the SGR, before the 2014 reimbursements go into effect.
