CMS Releases Overall Star Ratings Despite Hospitals’ Concerns

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) today publicly released overall hospital quality star ratings. The release comes after America’s Essential Hospitals and other hospital groups urged CMS to delay the ratings due to serious concerns with the methodology.

In April, CMS delayed the initial release of the overall star ratings in response to concerns the groups raised about the methodology, as well as letters signed by 285 members of Congress, urging the agency to “work with Congress and members of the hospital community to resolve these concerns.” However, CMS failed to adequately address these concerns before today’s public release, creating a rating system that is not in the best interest of patients.

See our news release for more information on CMS’ release of overall hospital star ratings.
