The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released the first Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) scorecard, intended to increase public transparency and accountability in the two programs.
The scorecard includes measures voluntarily reported by states, as well as federally reported measures in three areas:
- state health system performance;
- state administrative accountability; and
- federal administrative accountability.
CMS also released a fact sheet, which describes the creation and potential uses for the scorecard.
Future iterations of the scorecard will include enhanced functionality to sort and compare data by specific measures or by state. Over time, CMS intends to add additional measures to the scorecard as data become available.
