The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Feb. 1 released hospital-specific reports for overall hospital quality star rating. Hospitals have 30 days to review their reports before public reporting to Care Compare.
The overall hospital quality star ratings were last updated in January 2020. The April 2021 overall star ratings were calculated using the measure data from the October 2020 update of Care Compare to allow hospitals more time to preview results prior to publicly releasing ratings.
CMS made changes to the overall hospital star rating methodology in calendar year 2021 Medicare Hospital Outpatient Prospective Payment System and Ambulatory Surgical Center Payment System final rule. The April 2021 update uses the revised methodology, including peer grouping.
