CMS Releases Data on Disparities in Medicare Advantage

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Office of Minority Health has released data detailing the quality of care received by individuals with Medicare Advantage (MA) coverage, stratified by racial and ethnic groups.

This is the first time CMS has released data on the experience of MA beneficiaries that has been stratified by race and ethnicity. The data begin to identify where disparities exist in quality of care for MA beneficiaries. CMS plans annual reports of this data, which comes from the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and Medicare Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey.

America’s Essential Hospitals supports the collection of accurate and consistent race, ethnicity, and language (REAL) data as an essential component of reducing disparities and improving quality of care.
