CMS, ONC Seek Information on Quality Reporting Processes

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Office of the National Coordinator (ONC) are seeking public feedback on health information technology (HIT) certification and quality measure reporting requirements in federal health programs.

As outlined in a Dec. 31 request for information (RFI), CMS and ONC seek information to help them reduce the certification and reporting burden on eligible providers and hospitals in the Electronic Health Record Incentive Programs, Hospital Inpatient Quality Reporting Program, and other programs. Primarily, CMS and ONC seek feedback on these issues:

  • frequency of recertification of electronic health record technology
  • number of required clinical quality measures
  • improvements to certification of HIT vendors

Comments on the RFI are due Feb. 1. Contact Director of Policy Erin O’Malley at eomalley@essentialhospitals.org or 202.585.0127 with questions.
