In separate notices, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) extended to June 3 the comment letter deadlines for two proposed ruled intended to increase interoperability and improve patients’ access to their health information, while reducing regulatory burden on hospitals.
The proposed rules are related to interoperability, patient access to health information, and information blocking. They support CMS’ MyHealthEData initiative and implement provisions of the 21st Century Cures Act. Comments previously were due May 3.
America’s Essential Hospitals, along with other national associations, wrote to CMS and ONC asking for additional time to thoroughly evaluate and comment on the complex proposals.
