The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on May 12 released FAQs for state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) agencies redetermining enrollee eligibility and returning to normal operations.
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023 unlinked the continuous enrollment requirement from the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency. States could begin terminating Medicaid enrollment for individuals who no longer qualify starting April 1.
The FAQs cover topics including:
- Returned mail condition for states claiming the increased Federal Medical Assistance Percentage.
- Resumption of Medicaid and CHIP premiums.
- Renewal instructions for individuals who receive Social Security Income.
- Guidance for Medicaid and CHIP agencies sharing beneficiary data with enrolled providers to support renewal process.
The agency plans to update the FAQs as needed to support unwinding efforts and provide additional guidance to states.
