The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced a $15 million funding opportunity for state Medicaid agencies to develop, prepare, and conduct community-based mobile crisis intervention services, as authorized by the American Rescue Plan.
These services mobilize trained responders to aid in screening and assessment, stabilization and de-escalation, and coordination of referrals after initial treatment.
Funds can be used to:
- assess states current mental health and substance use intervention services;
- bolster capacity and information systems;
- supplement behavioral health training for diverse professionals; and
- seek technical assistance to develop State Plan Amendments, demonstration applications, and waiver program requests under the Medicaid program.
Letters of intent from states are due July 23, and grant funding will begin Sept. 30.
