The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Aug. 14 an extension for hospitals submitting data to the Medicare inpatient quality reporting program (IQR). Previously, hospitals had until Aug. 15 to submit their data for the first quarter of 2013 (i.e., discharges from Jan. 1 to March 31). With the extension, hospitals have until Aug. 23 at 11:59 pm PT, to submit their data. The extension applies to both clinical and health care-associated infection (HAI) data submissions. CMS cited technical challenges with the CMS hospital reporting system and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention National Healthcare Safety Network as the reason for the extension.
CMS also announced an extension for hospitals reviewing and submitting corrections to the fiscal year 2014 value-based purchasing (VBP) program percentage payment summary report. Previously, hospitals had until Aug. 24 to review and submit corrections. Hospitals now have until Aug. 26 to review and submit corrections for these reports. CMS extended the deadline to accommodate potential disruptions caused by routine system maintenance during the weekend of Aug. 24.
America’s Essential Hospitals, along with other hospital groups, raised the technical issues with CMS and urged them to extend the deadlines. Contact Xiaoyi Huang, assistant vice president for policy, at 202-585-0127 or email@example.com with questions or concerns.
