The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) extended to Aug. 8 the deadline to submit signed participation agreements and select clinical episodes for the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Advanced model. Based on that adjustment, deliverables for the model now are due Sept. 14.
The voluntary bundled payment model covers 29 inpatient and three outpatient clinical episodes. Participating acute care hospitals and physician group practices can earn additional payment if they reduce costs over the course of a beneficiary’s 90-day episode of care while meeting quality benchmarks.
The first BPCI Advanced cohort starts Oct. 1 and will run through Dec. 31, 2023.
CMS also announced that participants can retroactively withdraw all or some episode indicators from the program in March 2019, giving participants a trial period to participate.
Those interested in receiving updates about the program can sign up for the BPCI Advanced listserv.
