The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has awarded $63 million to support navigators, who provide enrollment assistance and education to consumers about health insurance available through federally facilitated and state partnership health insurance marketplaces (exchanges).
The grants come as the exchanges gear up for the Nov. 1 start of open enrollment for coverage beginning in 2017.
CMS awarded the new round of funding to 96 returning organizations, which received similar funding last year, and two new organizations. Funds are distributed in 12-month increments, contingent on navigators fulfilling program requirements and funding availability.
