Association Comments on Proposed Changes to Association Health Plans

America’s Essential Hospitals has urged federal officials to ensure association health plans (AHPs) have proper oversight and cover all necessary services for beneficiaries.

The association made its recommendations to the Department of Labor (DOL) in a March 6 comment letter on a proposed rule altering how AHPs are regulated.

The association supports the agency’s efforts to provide additional health insurance coverage options, but has concerns that changes to AHPs could have unintended consequences for essential hospitals and the patients they serve.

In its comments, America’s Essential Hospitals urged DOL to:

  • ensure AHP benefit packages include all necessary services to covered individuals; and
  • commit resources for rigorous oversight to ensure the integrity and solvency of AHPs.
