On Sept. 2, America’s Essential Hospitals submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) comments on the calendar year (CY) 2015 Medicare physician fee schedule (PFS) proposed rule. The association’s comments focus on the proposed changes to the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP). The association urged CMS to refine the MSSP measure set so it contains only reliable and valid measures that accurately capture quality of care. The association also urged CMS to revise its time frame for updating benchmarks so accountable care organizations (ACOs) have a more stable target when planning their quality improvement activities. Finally, the association encouraged CMS to reward ACOs for quality improvements in addition to achieving program milestones.
