On May 19, the association submitted comments on the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) 2022 Environmental Justice Strategy and Implementation Plan Draft Outline.
The plan provides direction for HHS efforts, informs the administration’s policy priorities, and identifies actions for environmental justice. Priority actions fell into six categories:
- services;
- partnerships and community engagement;
- policy development and dissemination;
- research and data collection,
- analysis and utilization;
- education and training; and
- performance measures.
The association urged HHS to provide sufficient funding to execute the plan efficiently and sustainably; prioritize education to increase stakeholder buy-in; and invest in capacity building to support partnerships, including through funding and technical assistance.
HHS has extended to June 18 the deadline to submit comments.
