Association Comments on AHRQ Role in Climate Change, Environmental Justice

America’s Essential Hospitals submitted comments in response to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality’s (AHRQ’s) request for information on its role in addressing climate change through its core competencies of health systems research, practice improvement, and data and analytics.

In its comments, the association stressed the importance of considering hospital physical infrastructure and financial status in developing research and practice improvement strategies. The comments also highlighted successful programs from member hospitals in building climate resiliency.

America’s Essential Hospitals recommended that AHRQ:

  • educate leadership and governance;
  • set goals for sustainability and resilience practices;
  • develop fiscally feasible climate resilience strategies;
  • identify practices with immediate return on investment; and
  • promote coalitions and partnerships.

Responses to AHRQ’s request for information can be submitted through Dec. 13, 2021.
