America’s Essential Hospitals Submits Comments to Congressional Committees on SGR

America’s Essential Hospitals submitted comments Nov. 12 to the leaders of the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees on the discussion draft of the proposal to permanently replace the Medicare physician payment system, which is based in part on the sustainable growth rate (SGR). Newsline previously reported that the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees came to an agreement on the framework for a permanent fix to the Medicare physician payment system.

In its comments, America’s Essential Hospitals expressed support for reforming the Medicare physician payment system and creating incentives for providing high-quality care. Specifically, America’s Essential Hospitals urged the committees to ensure the payment system solution does not come at the expense of hospitals. America’s Essential Hospitals also supports the proposal to encourage care coordination for individuals with complex needs and value-based performance payments as part of the physician payment reform.
